From: Joanna Marazzi Date: Wednesday, 2:34 p.m. Re: Diabetic Cooking Guide: Essential Guide to Planning, Shopping and Cooking

When I was diagnosed with diabetes, I was shocked by my reaction. When I first heard the news, I was filled with fear. I wasn’t upset about insulin shots. I wasn’t worried by the other health risks (I know, I know…what was I thinking?).

To be honest with you, the thing I feared the most something that might seem silly to healthy people…but, if you’re a diabetic, you know exactly what I’m talking about…

I loved all kinds of foods that were on the "DO NOT EAT" list my doctor handed me. I cried as I read through the list of no-no’s. (Believe me, I’ve since learned how food should not have been the only thing I was worried about, but at that moment-and for many months after I was first diagnosed-all I could think about was all the food that I could not eat.)

And, you’ll never guess what I did in the meantime…I was so upset about the illness and about all the foods that I couldn’t eat that I ate and ate all the foods I could eat…and a ton of it! (And, if you ask my husband, he’d probably say 2 tons of it!)

Before I knew it, I not only had diabetes, but I was overweight, out of shape, and…still upset about the foods I couldn’t eat.

My doctors were worried about how quickly I’d gained weight, my poor eating plan, and my lack of exercise. My entire lifestyle had changed for the worse. I tried to follow their advice, but the weight wouldn’t come off…so I decided to do a crash diet…

My second seizure came when I went on an exercise "binge" and exhausted my body…again a hypoglycemic reaction…

I know it may sound silly, but I needed to eat those foods to prove that I had control over my illness. I would do whatever I had to, but I was going to eat my favorite foods again.

So, what did I do? I learned everything I could about diabetes and health, diet, exercise, lifestyle, and more. I read and researched and asked the experts question after question…

But I wanted to do more than just learn…I wanted to figure out how I could eat the foods I had always wanted. And, it happened…

Now you can learn the secrets to great diabetic cooking in just…
