How long do employers keep your resume on file?

MetalBunnyLove asked:

I’ve been applying to various consulting agencies for an entry level position. Had no luck, so I’ve completely redesigned my resume and cover letter. How long should I wait until I send them my new resume?

  1. they are usually kept on file for 6 months…. but i would go ahead and give them the new ones now

It’s unclear with the information you’ve given if sending your resume to the consulting agencies is the only method you’ve used to try to get a position with them, but if it is, I highly recommend posting your resume on Monster.com and other associated job boards. Having my resume on Monster.com has continually helped me land jobs and I recommend them to everyone in the market for employment. As for how long resumes are kept on file…I’ve known of anywhere from 1 month to 2 years. Anytime you’ve updated your resume with new information, you should send in a new copy immediately. Good luck!
